ABOUT US

The Cebaco Bay Sportfishing Club is located on the threshold of one of the world’s last great sport fishing frontiers. Legendary places like Aguja Reef, Hannibal Bank, Coiba Island, Montuosa, Jicarita and the distant Malpelo Island, a majestic rock that rises up from 10,000 feet of water and climbs 400 feet into the sky are now accessible. At Cebaco Bay we offer adventure, wilderness, virgin seas and incredible sportsfishing opportunities. Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Yellow fin Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo, Cubera Snapper are yours for the taking.

Back in April of 1991 while in route to Panama City from the Hannibal Bank the crew of the AGUJA decided to check out an unnamed sea mount that showed up on the charts between Cebaco Island and Punta Naranjo. We changed our course slightly to the North East, tapped on the auto-pilot and set our speed at a mere 10 knots.

The ocean was perfectly calm that day, Cobalt blue and sparkling beneath a clear tropical sky.

As the AGUJA glided over this seamount for the first time our depth finder registered an incredible sharp rise to 120 feet. The place literally boiled as fields of onito churned the blue water, the scene routinely exploded with furious action as huge predators sent schools of rainbow runner airborne across the surface fearing for their lives. Seabirds everywhere, diving and darting as they pulled scraps from this liquid living feast... We were stoked! This was Black Marlin country, it was wild and virgin and we needed to fish it. Conditions could not have been more perfect as we scrambled to rig live baits and set them just behind our prop wash. Then suddenly, both rigger clips snapped as a double knockdown sent our 50's screaming line. A Black Marlin of 500 lbs. exploded from this cobalt blue sea, greyhounding and tail walking across trails of scattering bait fish...and that was just the beginning.
